TODO ESTÁ MUY CARO is the first exhibition in Barcelona by pioneering Colombian conceptualist Antonio Caro. Following his acclaimed appearance at the official Colombia pavilion at ARCO 2015, the artist arrives in Barcelona for a series of events and activities in the local context spanning several weeks. His presence in the city forges a connection with Barcelona’s established conceptual art tradition, given the deep affinity—in both content and form—between Caro’s work and Catalan artistic creation, including its youngest generations.
The exhibition presents a representative selection of his work, including the iconic Colombia-Coca Cola, Aquí no cabe el arte, Maíz, Todo está muy Caro, and other pieces such as the portable series Caro es de todos and the recent Minería. At the same time, TODO ESTÁ MUY CARO serves as the catalyst for this first encounter between the artist and the city.
At the opening on Wednesday 29 April at 8 pm, Caro will perform the action Achiote, painting the faces of visitors with the traditional pigment and condiment of the American continent.
The day after the opening, Thursday 30 April at 6 pm, Antonio Caro will discuss his work with renowned international curator Catherine David, Deputy Director of the Musée National d’Art Moderne at the Centre Georges Pompidou, former director of Jeu de Paume and Witte de With, and curator of documenta X, and with Miriam Estrada, director of Espacio Trapézio, which hosted his exhibition during ARCO Colombia 2015 in Madrid.
