At ESPRONCEDA, we cultivate creativity, research, and experimentation across a constellation of disciplines. Our work operates at the crossroads of art, technology, culture, and society, empowering artists and communities to imagine new possibilities.
Our core areas of expertise
ESPRONCEDA functions as a research and creation platform for contemporary art and new media. We offer artists the support, resources, and professional guidance needed to explore new ideas and develop ambitious projects. Since 2013, we have hosted over 500 international artists. Our residencies serve as incubators for experimentation across visual arts, digital arts, performance, and interdisciplinary practices.
Exhibitions are central to our identity. Each residency includes a final exhibition, allowing artists to present their research to both local and international audiences. We also collaborate with institutions and organizations worldwide to host independent exhibitions, positioning ESPRONCEDA as an active cultural agent in Barcelona’s contemporary art scene. In the past years, we have produced around 130 exhibitions, bringing global artistic perspectives into dialogue with the city.
Our incubator ecosystem is built through international art prizes, institutional collaborations, and a strong track record in European-funded initiatives. These networks support artists with production grants, mentorship, research opportunities, visibility, and long-term career development. Since 2018, ESPRONCEDA has expanded its impact by actively participating in a wide range of European programmes, including Horizon and Horizon Europe projects, Creative Europe projects, Creative Media projects, Erasmus+ educational and cultural innovation projects, and Europe for Citizens / Europe for Society initiatives.
These collaborations position ESPRONCEDA at the forefront of interdisciplinary research, cultural innovation, and European cooperation, reinforcing our commitment to fostering international dialogue and supporting emerging and established artistic talent. We proudly work with leading art institutions and cultural partners worldwide, including Arte Laguna (Venice), ARBA-ESA, Swab Barcelona, Royal College of Art London, RUFA Rome, Vera Brant Prize (Brazil) and Nectar ArtPrize, among others.
We believe creativity drives awareness, integration, and social transformation. Through workshops, talks, symposia, and community actions, we engage audiences of all ages, fostering dialogue between art, innovation, and society. Our long-term collaborations with Michelangelo Pistoletto’s Third Paradise and Kids Guernica have enabled more than 100 workshops with over 2,000 young people, promoting intercultural dialogue, inclusion, and civic empowerment through artistic expression. As an active New European Bauhaus (NEB) partner, ESPRONCEDA develops programmes that foster ecological responsibility, social cohesion, and collective imagination, helping communities co-create sustainable and culturally vibrant futures.
Through programmes such as IMMENSIVA (immersive art and XR since 2020) and NUBIA LABS (digital art, AI, and XR incubation since 2023), we explore the creative potential of VR/AR, AI, sensors, blockchain, and interactive media. At the same time, we champion sustainability as a cultural responsibility, using art to raise awareness, inspire action, and envision ecological and social futures grounded in balance, responsibility, and collective care.
