The Espronceda art gallery will host a new edition of the original literary improvisation championship Writing Slam on 23 March at 7:30 pm.
The Writing Slam is a literary improvisation championship in which writers create stories in front of the audience, which can follow them via video projection. Each edition is conceived as a live literary show, where the writing challenges are combined with various artistic performances.
On this occasion, 6 new contestants will have to complete creative writing challenges inspired by the world of illustration and drawing. Highlights include tests in which they must write in response to live creations by illustrators Lluís Cadafalch and Martín Tognola.
The contestants of this edition are writers with a poetic sensibility and experience in improvisation: Jaume Muñoz, Ingrid Garasa, Isa García, Christian Rodríguez and Horacio Bernardo.
The audience can vote in the challenges, and each edition also invites guests related to the theme to serve as jury members. On this occasion, the jury will include writers and illustrators Bouman Underbrainer and Bill Jiménez.
The winner of this edition will advance to the Grand Final of the season, to be held on 28 September at l’Antiga Fàbrica Estrella Damm in Barcelona.
The event, hosted by actress and singer Norma Cano, will feature live performances by poet Iñaki C. Nazábal, guitarist Petra Llopart and young violinist Evelín Mansilla. Attendees will also be able to enjoy the temporary exhibition ‘I Had A Flashback’ by Mexican artist Melissa Godoy, artist-in-residence at Espronceda.
The Writing Slam is a show created by the Association Escritura en Vivo (www.escrituraenvivo.org), whose mission is to promote literary creation and reading through various formats and activities. Live Writing has organised more than 500 events since its founding in 2010.

Born in Argentina in 1972, he began his career at the newspaper Clarín and later at Viva, Noticias, Playboy and Olé. In 1995 he arrived in Barcelona, where he collaborated for more than 15 years with El Periódico de Catalunya and, among many other publications (La Vanguardia, Orsai, Público, Rockdelux, Madriz, Mujer21, Woman, Kult, Mia…), weekly with Time Out Barcelona magazine. His press experience gave rise to an agile and dynamic line. His staging focuses on effectiveness, with decoration serving the protagonist. Martín also lends this approach to major brands, whether to showcase their flagship product and project a sense of closeness, or to tell stories: BMW, El Terrat, Mc Donalds, Winston, Haagen Dasz, GrandValira, La Caixa, El Corte Inglés…
His talent as a draughtsman is evident in Barcelona Low Cost, his first comic published by Glénat, winner of the Josep Coll Prize 2009. He has also received the Portfolio Award from the SND (Society of Newspaper Design) on two occasions.
