Espronceda’s proposition for the 2016 edition of the Loop Festival is based on three artistic projects on show during the Festival:
1) «The Lives Beneath», video projection, 2016, by Bianca Kennedy and Felix Kraus.
This project, realised in Barcelona with local actors and musicians, depicts a world in the year 4000. Everything in nature has merged into a single mind. Plants, animals and hybrid human beings form one super-network of awareness. The few remaining non-hybrids are forced to live underwater in floating cities and try to convince nature they are still valuable. “The Lives Beneath” examines the fall of a society that refuses to live in harmony with nature. On the other side is a self-conscious planet that suffers from the burden of having to think for eternity.
2) «Mujeres no identificadas», video projection, 2 min 25 sec, 2015, Lucia Pizzani. Curated by Fortunata Calabro.
What happens when a face is removed from a woman’s body? What happens when that face can no longer be recognised? “Unidentified Women” was born through the personal investigation of artist Lucia Pizzani into photographs representing women of the Victorian era. On those photographs was expressly written: “Unidentified women”. At the time, there were almost no photographic portraits of women bearing a name, unlike those of men. Pizzani develops a work that is at once sensitive and vigorous, collecting these anonymous images, bringing them together and ultimately glorifying them through video. With this gesture, Lucia not only chooses to shape a project, but also to give it a voice. In the audio piece accompanying the video, the artist searched current news for the phrase “unidentified woman” in Spanish and English, exploring the stereotypes associated with the image of the invisible, missing, dead or hidden woman.
3) Video-performances PSP (Performance Shooting Protocole) and OPS (Ode Start Protection), 2016, by URL Fighters network: #215 (Victor Le), #1695 (Grégoire Quillet).
The PSP performance seeks to connect the world of startups with artists, both creative and emerging. By creating a photograph in which the artist metaphorically defends a company’s logo, he becomes its protector. The performance is an ongoing event taking place every day of the Festival in collaboration with artists and startups from Barcelona. (Throughout the Festival). The work OPS is a sound performance built in the image of our society—fast and fluctuating, unwilling to be familiar or pleasant; it is “electropost-punk psycho-bordélique”. The video projection is accompanied by a choreographic performance while a sound composition of voice and analogue and digital instruments is played. (Friday 3rd at 22h).
